A couple of years ago, a friend forwarded a request for proposals for the conversion of 42nd street to a strange sort of Rambla with streetcars (trolleys), but no other vehicles. At one level, the call didn’t work on us at all– we hated the idea! At another (deeper) level, it worked great– it got us thinking much harder about the grid, and the fabric, and the possibilities, than we otherwise would have…

We’ve been tinkering with them ever since.
